Coincidence?

From the mailbox:

How amusing is it that the instant DontStop gets a three day ban, User623 shows up again? Almost as interesting as the fact that it took the powers that be 2 days to decide that his "Give me a break" post was warning worthy. It didn't take them that long to ban FreddyCat for saying "Catch a clue."

For What It's Worth!

No pun intended ;)

Got A Clue mentioned generated revenue re: reality sites. According to http://www.websiteoutlook.com/www.jokersupdates.com Jokers is worth $256k, but one should read the disclaimer at the top of the page & according to inside sources JU is worth @ $40k tops! and the daily ad revenue of $350 is also a totally inflated figure, a pipe dream to be sure. Whereas it is true Jokers has so many ads, one can't help but hit a couple by mistake every day.

Having no axe to grind, believing in free enterprise and supply and demand, must admit I donated to JU in 2003 in a moment of weakness ;), but this was before Jokers started putting the donate button on every frickin' page and started flooding their site with spam! So much so JU has started premium access subscriptions where members can pay to get rid of the advertisements, etc. Oh the irony.

But hey, like I said free enterprise and just like politicians will never go broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public, most reality site owners will never go broke underestimating the intelligence of addicted reality fan lemmings.

btw, Joker loyalists should not be upset by RE's recent spotlight on JU. Any publicity is good publicity as Jokerette's ad revenue keeps on truckin'.

bottom line

(For you keeping score this was submitted to me - RE)

What Is Good For The Goose?

From the mailbox:

It just keeps getting better, that JU mod that posted at your site obviously doesn't realize that JU doesn't follow its own rules then.

"6) It is JokersUpdates.com policy to provide the source/link of all articles and stories that are taken from other places. Even if you completely re-type the story here for others to read, a source needs to be provided."

To me, it seems that Jokers takes the policy of "Do what I say, not what I do." This morning/Yesterday Night Corneroffice returned with more spoilers, and the administrators at the BBQ embedded one little bit into it: " Stop stealing our content without crediting it, JU!" Of course, Jokers did steal the bit, and did post Coneroffice's spoilers; when credited they removed both the line for JU to give credit and the credit itself. If Jokers is trying to gain revenue from their decadent forums, perhaps they should renovate them.

Also, if you're looking to read up on the BBQ's perspective of Joker's henious acts, you can do so here: http://www.realitybbqforums.com/showthread.php?t=4866 .

Here's A Clue

Dear RE,

If you had told me that I'd be writing an email to Reality Enquirer defending Jokers Updates a year ago, I'd have laughed at you. Loudly. But here I am. I've read the last two entries on your blog. Specifically in "You Can Tell It's Big Brother Season When" the issue of certain site names being 'banned' is brought up. It seems a shock to someone that other site names/references are banned. Had the parties involved actually read the site rules they would have seen that this is, indeed, frowned upon behavior not just at Jokers Updates but at MANY boards. If you are trying to grow a board and generate revenue (and yes folks, a lot of sites out there are indeed trying to generate revenue)

Furthermore, this is not anything new. I joined Jokers Updates late during Big Brother 3, after Jokerette bought the site. I 'met' Jokerette when she was still Digilady at Elitestv. And when I joked JU it was, indeed frowned upon behavior to reference other competing sites, not just BBQ. I am a former moderator/administrator at JU, so I can tell you for fact that the refernce to other sites being a 'nono' isn't new.

I'm not on staff anymore, and due to my own rude, and cruel behavior issues I've basically burned my bridges with Jokers Updates, to my own regret. But to see Jokers Updates maligned because someone can't follow fundamental rules is something I cannot sit back and not speak up about.

Sincerely,
Got A Clue

Hot and Hotter

From the mailbox:

Whatever the beef is at Jokers and the BBQ its going to get even hotter, because the BBQ just had their cast list confirmed. Theres an uproar on Jokers about it, but the Mods are deleting away. Seems like Jokerette doesn't like someone having more success and more stories than her, especially when Jokers believed they had the twist for this season - only for the BBQ to actually get the cast, the twist, and the poster CornerOffice. Jokerette must be pissed that Spamgirl is much more friendlier and able to accept criticism

You Can Tell Its Big Brother Season When...

Well it must be time for Big Brother because the board wars have already begun:

http://www.realitybbqforums.com/showthread.php?t=4866

Just a few comments on this thread after you have read it. First, there is a lot more history between Spamgirl and Jokerette than just rival websites. Both were best friends from the TV Clubhouse days, both went to Elites TV, and Spamgirl was a moderator or maybe even an administrator at Jokers Updates. The love/hate relationship between them has been going on for a long time now, and it is not surprising that Reality BBQ is a "banned" site at Jokers - Jokerette is known for how long she can hold a grudge - just ask her ex-staff.

As far as copyright infringement - if you really want to keep someone from copying your material, just look up who they are hosting with, or who they lease their servers from, check out the terms of service, paying close attention to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act parts and how to report. Then send a nice email (or fill out their form) showing where your original material is, where the offending material is, and demand that action be taken - making sure you give all the information required in the terms of service. Make sure you can show your material is the original!

It is very interesting how fast a website will start crediting material and only posting excerpts when they are shutdown by their provider. And guess what - you don't have to spend a penny or hire a lawyer.

Maybe this season will be interesting again?
